MAD in MOLDOVA is a series of paintings and graphics that cast a satirical lens on the prejudices ingrained within Moldovan society. Employing the ox, a symbol deeply embedded in the nation's coat of arms and flag, this collection subverts its traditional connotations of strength and resilience, reimagining it as a vehicle for social commentary.
Through a visual language steeped in irony and sarcasm, the ox motif is deconstructed and reconfigured, appearing as a fragmented skull, a deflated balloon, a pixelated form, and a shattered glass reflection. These distorted representations challenge viewers to confront the absurdity of deeply rooted biases and the fragility of national identity constructs.
Executed primarily in oils on canvases, these works invite close examination, encouraging viewers to decipher the layers of meaning embedded within each composition. MAD in MOLDOVA is not merely a critique; it is a call to introspection, urging Moldovan society to confront its own contradictions and embrace a more nuanced understanding of itself.
